Job Description

The Librarian for Digital Projects (or Web Developer) is an on-site position and a part of the Library Technology and Assessment Services team at Vanderbilt University. This position is key to assuring that new and current web applications adhere to current web guidelines. Reporting directly to the Director of Library Technology and Assessment Services, this position will work with other groups, both internal and external, to assure that library collections are available through the various web applications.

This position is SkillBridge eligible.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Maintain and develop interfaces for the library’s digital collections and ensure they maintain a consistent look and feel.

  • Assure W3C WCAG compliance of library websites.

  • Maintain and develop the library’s public website, web applications, and other core web services

  • Works with others in LTAS to assure the security of the library web environment.

  • Work with others in LTAS to help set priorities and timetables for digital projects.

  • Work to assure that analytics are collected on all library systems through Matomo and/or Google Analytics

  • Participate on committees, project teams, and other groups to complete projects

  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • A Master of Library Information Science (MLIS) from an ALA-accredited institution is strongly preferred. However, a degree in computer science, or relevant equivalent work experience, will be considered.

  • At least one year of related work experience, in addition to education or substitute work experience, is required.

  • Demonstrable experience with developing applications for a web environment is required.

  • Experience with creating and maintaining CSS is required.

  • Experience with various programming languages, including Ruby, PHP, Perl, Python, etc., is required.

  • The ability to work collaboratively is required.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills are required.
