The temporary Transcription Technician is part of the Vanderbilt Television News Archive (VTNA) department at Vanderbilt University. This position creates and improves transcription data to facilitate access and discovery of the television news archive.
VTNA operates under the Vanderbilt University Libraries, Distinctive Collections division, within a small library office environment servicing the research needs of the Vanderbilt Academic Community, other college campuses, and the general public through a variety of unique collection services.
Runs transcripts through an Automated SpeechRecognition (ASR) program.
Identifies the start and end of segments usingthe supplied guidelines.
Applies a program code to each segment.
Quickly and efficiently edits the transcriptfollowing training guidelines.
Saves the resulting files to their appropriatelocation.
Must be able to perform these functions consistently and repeatedly for the duration of the project. Duties are performed indoors in an office environment. Duties require extended periods of sitting and extended periods of monitoring audiovisual materials on a computer screen. Duties can be performed remotely after completing two weeks of in-office shifts and once the worker demonstrates a level of consistency, accuracy, and efficiency. The candidate must provide their own workspace, computer and internet access to work remotely. Timecards with remote hours must be accompanied by the corresponding number of acceptable output files.
Profile of anIdeal Candidate
Proficiency with the internet and digitalcommunications and proficient with the English language, including spelling isnecessary.
Experience with repetitive, data entry, taskthat demonstrate the ability to stay focused and on schedule is preferred.
Experience with Trello, task management softwareis also preferred.
Outstanding communication and organizationskills as well as excellent attention to detail are required.
Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships with supervisors, subordinates, and associates is necessary.
Knowing when to ask questions and when to takeinitiative is necessary.
Candidate must have either a High School Diplomaor GED.
