Vanderbilt University Special Education Consultant, Technical Assistance and Training Coordinator, Peabody College in Nashville, Tennessee

The TA Coordinator will be responsible for:

  • Increasing the numbers of universities, districts and schools utilizing the various online PD options offered by the center

  • Coordinating and present virtual, hybrid, and face-to-face workshops and trainings about IRIS Center resources

  • Seeking and maintaining approved-provider status in state and professional certification systems

  • Developing/reviewing IRIS online resources and training materials

Located within the Department of Special Education and supported by the U.S. Department of Education’s Office of Special Education Programs, the IRIS Center develops and disseminates free, engaging online resources about evidence-based instructional and behavioral practices to support the education of all students, particularly struggling learners and those with disabilities. These resources, designed to bridge the research-to-practice gap, are intended for use in college teacher preparation programs, in professional development (PD) activities for practicing professionals, and by independent learners. The array of IRIS resources includes modules, case studies, information briefs, course/PD activities, a high-leverage practices alignment tool, and an online glossary of disability-related terms as well as supporting products to enhance their use in coursework and PD activities. All of these resources are hosted for free on the center’s barrier-free website, which hosts over 3 million visits per year worldwide.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Provides support and technical assistance for SEA/LEAs who are utilizing the various IRIS PD options and resources

  • Provides virtual, hybrid, and face-to-face training and technical assistance to states, districts, schools

  • Serves as liaison to school and district personnel enrolled in the IRIS School & District Platform

  • Responds to consumer requests for support or information via email and telephone help line

  • Collaborates with partner agencies to support use of IRIS resources in the continuous improvement process in schools and districts

  • Seek PD approval through national, state, and local organizations

  • Supports districts, when requested, in the ongoing assessment of practices toward implementation and sustainability of evidence-based practices related to the delivery of professional development

  • Prepares and presents awareness trainings of IRIS resources

  • Prepares training materials

  • Completes documentation for each training delivered

  • Provides technical assistance and coaching for districts as follow-up to trainings

  • Participates in development, review and revision process of educational resources

  • Collaborates on data collection, analysis and reporting to make programming evaluation decision making

  • Assists in provision of internal professional development

  • Communicates and collaborates with team members and supervisor

  • Proficient in the use of technology

  • Complies with Vanderbilt policies and procedures

Non-Essential Duties: Other duties as assigned

  • Additional clearly articulated responsibilities, duties, and performance expectations with a strong emphasis on outcomes and outcomes as required of the role


  • Master’s degree in education or related fields

  • Minimum of 5 years providing technical assistance to LEAs/SEAs is strongly preferred

  • Experience with professional development and school improvement activities

  • Experience working with district and/or state level leadership teams, providing decision-making and support for school improvement

  • Expertise in data-based decision making

  • Experience with instructional design and materials development preferred

  • Experience with teambuilding preferred

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills, including independent writing skills

  • High level of accuracy and attention to detail

  • Ability to efficiently manage multiple tasks with accuracy and respond to changing priorities

  • Ability to adapt communication appropriately for purpose and audience

  • Ability to work as part of the team, lead when appropriate, and accept feedback

  • Professional appearance and demeanor
