The Institute for Software Integrated Systems, is a research organization of the School of Engineering at http://www.vuse.vanderbilt.edu/ at Vanderbilt University at http://www.vanderbilt.edu/ . ISIS conducts basic and applied research in the area of systems and information science and engineering.
The Senior Research Engineer conducts research and development activities related to the design, development, modification, installation, and/or testing of state-of-the-art software systems involved in scientific research. This position may act as a project leader in the engineering phase of a project, providing professional direction to and coordination of other engineers and technicians.
The Institute for Software Integrated Systems conducts basic and applied research in the area of systems and information science and engineering. Applications of its technology span a wide range of software-intensive systems from small embedded devices, through real-time distributed systems, to globally deployed complex systems. Software is increasingly essential to the functions of these systems, and it is also the primary means of adapting them to their environments and users. Our research interests lie in the theoretical foundations, modeling, design, engineering, and educational aspects of these systems.
Engineering and/or software design, implementation,analysis, maintenance or experimentation, as directed by team leader.
Assist with modeling and analysis ofdiscipline-specific engineering problems.
Assist Principal Investigator and/or System Architectwith development and maintenance of discipline-specific software systemsand/or engineering tools to support project and research goals.
Adhere to existing and develop/recommend new technicalstandards.
Maintain familiarity with and expertise in emergingtechnologies and techniques related to project and research goals.
Technical documentation and reporting.
Provide Principal Investigator and/or System Architectwith accurate documentation of all systems within project research areaof direct involvement or responsibility.
Provide Principal Investigator and/or System Architectwith data to assist in evaluation of project research direction andprogress, and provide input on solutions as necessary.
Provide Principal Investigator and/or System Architectwith daily documentation of work performed.
Effective delivery of technical progressreports/presentations in written and oral forms to project research staffand faculty.
Communicate regularly, effectively, and professionallywith Principal Investigator and/or System Architect and research team.
Share research knowledge, product, and researchprocesses with Principal Investigator and/or System Architect andresearch team.
Master’s Degree and 2years’ experience in the field or a Bachelor's Degree and 3+ years' experience in the field.
Profile of an IdealCandidate
Established skills in software system development,modeling, and/or systems engineering
Ability to design, implement, test, document, andmaintain software.
Practical knowledge of software development tools,programming languages, (e.g. C/C++, Java, Python, Matlab, C#), databasesand web technologies, as needed by project
Solid software engineer with an understanding ofmodel-based engineering principals
