Research Assistant I - Part Time (Biological Sciences) (Job Number: 1900718)
This is a part-time, 20-25 hours per week position.
The Research Assistant I is part of the Eichman laboratory in the Department of Biological Sciences at Vanderbilt University and will be key personnel in providing support for the day-to-day duties in a molecular/chemical biology laboratory. Administratively & functionally reporting to the laboratory manager & functionally to the PI, the Research Assistant I will communicate daily with the laboratory manager and other members of the laboratory. The ability to function individually, as well as part of a team is critical.
The Eichman laboratory is a collaborative research environment comprised of graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff seeking insights into the fundamental processes underlying genome maintenance. Current work focuses on base excision repair of DNA alkylation damage by DNA glycosylases, repair of stalled replication forks by structure-specific DNA translocases, and the coordination of DNA unwinding and synthesis during eukaryotic replication.

Duties and Responsibilities
Wash and sterilize glassware
Maintain inventories anddatabases
Prepare and maintain laboratoryreagents
Assist with gene cloning,protein expression, and purification
Assist with maintaininglaboratory equipment
This is a part-time, 20-25 hours per week position
Profile of an IdealCandidate
Bachelor’s degree inbiochemistry, molecular biology, chemistry, or a related science from anaccredited institution of higher education isnecessary.
Experience in a structuralbiology or biochemistry laboratory is strongly preferred.
Excellent communication skills(verbal and written) are necessary.
Ability to follow directionsand perform repetitive tasks with limited supervision isnecessary.
Data organization and basiccomputer skills are necessary.
Ability to work in acollaborative environment is strongly preferred.
