Under the supervision of the Director of the Center for Research on Men’s Health and the projects director(s), the research analyst will provide scientific support to leadership and assist with developing, maintaining, executing and disseminating findings from research studies and projects that focus on the health and well-being of adult males, primarily African American and Latino men. These projects or tasks may include behavioral interventions, conducting and analyzing data from focus groups and/or interviews; assisting with the development and dissemination of the findings of the Tennessee Men’s Health Report Card; analyzing existing qualitative or quantitative data for publications and presentations; helping develop and/or maintain partnerships; supporting and preparing grants proposals, preparing and presenting abstracts and presentations for professional meetings and conferences.

The Center for Research on Men’s Health (CRMH) is a university-wide center at Vanderbilt University. The center director reports directly to the Vice Provost for Research and the center sits administratively in her office. CRMH fosters research that bridges social sciences, humanities, medicine and public health to understand and improve the health and well-being of adult males. Most of our current projects focus on the health and well-being of middle-aged and older African American or Latino men. An important goal of CRMH is to be a national and global leader in the elimination of unjust differences in health behaviors and health outcomes among men.

This position does not have supervisory responsibility; the position reports administratively to the Administrative Officer and functionally to the director(s) of specific projects.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Coordinate research procedures

  • Drafts and aids in thedevelopment of project materials and protocols

  • Recruits, screens and enrollsproject participants, churches, and other organizations according toapproved protocols

  • Engages in communicationregarding projects, including providing study information, answeringquestions, scheduling appointments, and following up to collectstudy-related information

  • Conducts interviews, focusgroup discussions and project process evaluations

  • Prepares, submits and monitorsInstitutional Review Board materials

Collects, Organizes and Evaluates Study Data

  • Conducts data entry,maintenance, organization and storage of data within research platformsand project files

  • Updates and organizesstudy-related forms

  • Prepares basic statistical,qualitative and quantitative analyses of research data

Prepare Materials for Presentations, Publications andProposals

  • Conducts literature reviews

  • Participates in writingsections for scientific manuscripts and grant proposals

  • Develops study-relateddocuments (consent forms, fliers, questionnaires, etc.) to ensure thatthey are culturally sensitive and written at an appropriate level ofhealth literacy

Keep Abreast of Trends

  • Reads professional journals andattends meetings and/or seminars

  • Participates in and maintainscertifications required by Vanderbilt, the department and funding sponsors

Profile of an IdealCandidate:

  • Bachelor’s degree from anaccredited institution of higher education is required.

  • 1 year of related health research experience is preferred.

  • Master’s degree in Public Health, SocialSciences, Social Work or other relevant field from an accredited institution ofhigher education is preferred.

  • Excellent oral and writtencommunication skills with close attention to detail

  • Ability to interact in aneffective, positive and appropriate manner with diverse populations

  • Committed to maintainingconfidentiality of records and information and an excellent understandingof the compliance obligations associated with IRB/HIPPA

  • Experience with qualitativeanalysis software (Nvivo, Atlas, etc.) and/or quantitative analysissoftware (SPSS, R, STATA, etc.) is preferred

  • Ability to apply healthbehavior and social science theory to research study implementation ispreferred.
