Vanderbilt University Printing Services Technician in Nashville, Tennessee

About the Position:

Vanderbilt Printing Services seeks to hire a customer focused individual to fill a full time Digital Printing Technician position. The position is responsible for coordinating and performing printing activities including electronic file management, print file setup, and document finishing tasks in a print shop or copy center. This position is responsible for providing satisfactory customer service to a diverse population at Vanderbilt. The digital printing technician will maintain standards of friendliness and helpfulness while supporting Printing Services mission.

About the Department:

Vanderbilt University Printing Services is the in-house print service provider for the university community. The department offers a wide range of graphic communications services, including high volume digital printing, signage and wide format, and custom web-to-print solutions. Printing Services has been in operation since 1960 and is an FSC certified sustainable printer.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Operate high volume, digital printers and scanners.

  • Operate large format set up, printing and finishing.

  • Will cross trained in all printing, finishing and engraving.

  • Review and prepare incoming electronic files for printing and mailing, assisting clients in data conversion and file submission.

  • Provide customer service and run point of sale register in retail environment.

  • Order routine supplies using purchase orders.

  • May be responsible for visiting clients and potential clients to promote services and improve communication.

  • May be responsible for completing Printing Services job tickets, including trimming and folding.

  • May be responsible for shipping job tickets by packaging product and printing delivery slips.

  • May involve lead responsibility for student employees.

Experience and Skills:

  • Ability to work in a team atmosphere is required.

  • Ability to lift up to 60 lbs. on a regular basis is required.

  • Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering, and inventory control is preferred.

  • Ability to communicate effectively, both orally and in writing is preferred.

  • Ability to gather data, compile information, and prepare reports is preferred.

  • Ability to analyze and solve problems is preferred.

  • Ability to create, compose, and edit written materials is preferred.

  • Organizing and coordinating skills is preferred.

  • Knowledge of general accounting principles are preferred.

  • Comfort with technology and how to apply it to solving problems and finding solutions.
