Moving & Event Set-Up Technician (Job Number: 1801519)
Duties and Responsibilities:
Move and transport furniture, boxes, hard and soft material, and various types and pieces of equipment in a manner consistent with material handling safety guidelines.
Set up and breakdown special event furniture and equipment such as tables, chairs, tents, stanchions, and various other items necessary to support events. Operation and use of various material handling devices and equipment such as forklifts, tractors, pallet jacks, tow motors, furniture dollies, carts, hand trucks, and panel dollies as necessary to accomplish tasks.
Follow written and verbal directions and report to the shop supervisor the necessary information to facilitate the completion of the work requested.
Use basic hand tools to dismantle and/or assemble furniture and equipment as related to moving or event set-up.
Properly load/unload trucks and trailers, use of tie down straps and other anchoring devices, and use of padding and covers. Properly handle all furniture and equipment to prevent damage.
Provide service to customers and requestors of work in a manner consistent with expectations.
Utilize work management system. Set up, monitor, and utilize personal work order query. Enter/submit work order time.
Operate and drive vehicles such as box trucks and pick-up trucks in a safe and effective manner.
May be required to pull trailers and tow equipment.
Other duties related to classification. Assist other areas when needed in a manner consistent with skill level.
Ability to effectively communicate verbally and in writing, and make basic calculations.
Ability to stand, stoop, bend, climb, lift and carry items for extended periods of time.
Ability to accurately follow written and verbal instructions.
Demonstrate critical thinking skills to effectively problem solve.
Demonstrate a willingness to learn and contribute, and a strong work ethic.
Push, pull, lift and carry at least 70 pounds regularly and repeatedly.
Thorough knowledge of the Vanderbilt Campus.
Ability to work in various weather conditions including hot, cold, and wet conditions.
High school graduate or GED.
Valid driver’s license.
6:00 am to 2:30 p.m. – Monday – Friday
Must be available to work additional hours as required including weekends, nights, and evening hours.
