Description

As a Migration Support Technician, you will join a dynamic team of technology professionals providing tier 1 and tier 2 technical support to classroom, lab, research and administrative areas across the university. This role serves as a workstation migration technician providing technical migration support directly to faculty, staff and, in some cases, students for Vanderbilt University.

The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, excellent communicator, and a natural problem solver who can work both independently and collaboratively as part of a team.

Support Services, the group responsible for providing endpoint management and support for Vanderbilt University Information Technology (VUIT), numbers just over 50 fulltime staff and can be broken down into 3 main areas. 1) The Tech Hub, our student helpdesk, 2) The desktop support teams, provides world-class IT support to Vanderbilt’s academic and administrative areas, and 3) the Desktop Engineering team provides endpoint management services to approximately 5,400 devices.

Duties and Responsibilities

This role will act as a technical resource and migration assistant for faculty, staff, and students while:

Providing onsite and remote technical support for workstation migrations:

  • Provide world class IT support via a combination of excellent customer service, fast response times, reliable technical solutions, and personal ownership of all technical issues.

  • Continuous communication during the lifecycle of migration tasks

  • Collaboration with the project team and technical resources to ensure knowledge of process, schedule, expectations, etc.

  • Maintain accurate records of appointments and workstation migration completions

  • Advocate timely response and resolution for customer needs throughout migration process

  • Execute efficient business processes that allow successful assistance to customers across all areas of Vanderbilt

  • Offer recommendations to improve or create productive workflows and increase efficiency

With limited guidance, maintain technical documentation to be used for migration tasks:

  • Participate in the creation and updating of migration documentation

  • Review all documentation with project team and technical resources

NOTE: A Term position is a staff position that exists for a period longer than six months but is not expected to last beyond one year. Although a position may exist for a specified or indefinite period, staff who accept term positions are not guaranteed employment for the entire period; they are employed for indefinite periods within the limit of the appointment. There are no guarantees of continued employment, either within the term or when the term ends.

  • Required: Associate degree OR minimum 1-year relevant experience

  • Experience administering users, computers, and groups in a Microsoft Active Directory domain environment

  • Ability to clearly articulate technical concepts to end-users with various levels of technical proficiency
