Media Support Specialist, Classroom Technology (Job Number: 2001044)


The primary role of a Media Support Specialist is to provide direct learning space support to Vanderbilt University’s technology enhanced spaces. The Media Support Specialist will work with department leadership to ensure that technology standards are adhered to, as well as ensuring that customers are receiving the technology support needed to obtain successful learning space outcomes.

The VUIT AV Design & Support team is responsible for providing direct support for technology enhanced spaces at Vanderbilt University. This support includes ensuring maximum technology uptime as well as class/event support, technology training for the Vanderbilt University community, audio/visual recording and providing AV solutions for programs and events. Our team is comprised of audio-visual professionals and covers over 500 technology enabled spaces in distributed support zones. With a combination of full time and student workers, support is provided to the Vanderbilt University community 7 days a week.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Support of technology enhanced learning spaces:

  • Effectively manage reported issues and requests through use of VUIT ITSM tools

  • Just in time support for reported AV technology issues

  • Proactive maintenance of technology enhanced learning spaces

  • Provide AV start up support for classes and events

  • Provide training to faculty, staff, and students

  • Other AV technology support tasks as assignment

AV Production:

  • Facilitate audio and video recording for classes and events

  • Provide lecture capture support in equipped spaces

  • Associates Degree in technology related field is preferred

  • Bachelor’s Degree in technology related field is preferred

  • AVIXA CTS certification is preferred

  • 1 year of experience working with professional AV systems is necessary

  • 2 years of experience working with professional AV systems is preferred

  • Knowledge and experience with Crestron based hardware is preferred

  • Thorough understating of troubleshooting methodologies necessary

  • Ability to work independently and in groups is necessary

  • Ability to evaluate problems as well as create and execute solutions with guidance is necessary

  • Experience in working in a high pressure, deadline-oriented environment is necessary

  • Ability to effectively present job-related information upon request to customers is necessary

  • Experience with both software and hardware based VTC platforms is necessary

  • Basic Knowledge of network topology and AV over IP solutions is preferred
