Duties and responsibilities

This is a temporary position working approximately 20 hours per week.


  • Providevarious massage options including but not limited to Swedish, Deep Tissue,Prenatal, Sports or other massage within the scope of practice and licensing

  • Provideclients with guidance and helpful information about the health and wellnessbenefits of receiving massage therapy

  • Designsessions around clients’ specific needs as well as suggesting frequency

  • Completemassage therapy session utilizing the appropriate pressure and style ofmanipulation and demonstrates ability to distinguish among those needed(myofascial, reflexology, trigger point, lymphatic drainage massage, etc.)

  • Maintainthe cleanliness and upkeep of the massage therapy room and common areas perdepartment policies and procedures

  • Assistin maintaining inventory of massage equipment and the upkeep including laundryservices

  • Participatein both University and Rec wellness and marketing events

  • Provideonsite and mobile massage, which will involve on-campus or off-campus travel

  • Followall Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center policies and protocols

  • Maintainprofessional appearance at all times

  • Adheresto and stays abreast of state and local licensing laws and regulations andensures compliance with any changes


  • Maintainclient profiles and detailed records of appointments in a legible manner

  • Checkschedule of appointments and cancellations regularly

  • Attendall Rec required trainings and meetings

  • Maintainand safeguard client confidentially per Vanderbilt University policy

  • Otherduties as assigned


This position does not have supervisory responsibility and reports administratively and functionally to Vanderbilt Recreation and Wellness Center Activities Coordinator.

Profile of an Ideal Candidate

  • HighSchool Diploma or GED is necessary.

  • Current massagelicense and continued education requirements are required in order toprovide services in the state of Tennessee
