Human Resources Intern (Summer 2019) (Job Number: 1900564)
The Human Resources Intern will provide support to the development and classification of position descriptions for Vanderbilt University Information Technology positions. The ideal candidate will be familiar with basic Human Resources competencies, have excellent written communication skills, and will be comfortable working with all levels within the organization.
The Human Resources Intern will work alongside VUIT’s HR team. This team provides HR support to 300+ full time employees and approximately 80+ student workers. This team works closely with the university’s Central HR team acts as a liaison between the two departments.
Key Functions and ExpectedPerformance:
Reviews existing jobdescriptions for the department and makes recommendations for description contentto assure descriptions accurately describe the position.
Researches similarpositions in the industry to assist hiring manager with content creation.
Assures all jobdescriptions are complete and consistent in formatting.
Interfaces withemployees to review and or update major duties and responsibilities, KSAs, andother requirements.
Works with Vanderbilt’sCentral HR and Compensation team to assure all current descriptions are appropriatelyclassified.
Organizes descriptionsfor storage and publication to VUIT’s staff website.
Upon completionof the internship, the intern will:
Develop a strongunderstanding of how Human Resources functions in a Higher Education setting
Become proficient injob description development
Get the opportunity to work on ‘real’ HRprojects alongside our HR team
Achieveboth professional and personal growth as you buildthe necessary skills to start a successful career in Human Resources
Experience and Education :
Current undergraduate Junior/Senior, orgraduate student
Human Resources or Communicationsconcentration preferred
Ability to communicate effectively in writingand verbally
Exceptionalinterpersonal skills, positive attitude with a high level of contagious energy
Exceptional organizational skills
Ability towork independently with strong follow-up skills
Proficiencywith Microsoft Office Word, Excel, Outlook, and PowerPoint
