Housekeeping Supervisor - 1st Shift (Job Number: 1901238)
The Housekeeping Supervisor is part of the Facilities, Plant Operations department, at Vanderbilt University and is responsible for supervising 1st shift housekeeping staff performing general housekeeping and cleaning duties in various buildings across the Vanderbilt University campus. The Housekeeping Supervisor will provide supervision and support to front line staff, to ensure compliance with University cleaning standards, sustainable cleaning practices, safe workplace practices, and applicable regulatory codes to maintain a clean and safe environment for students, faculty and staff. Reporting to the Building Services Manager, this role will work as a partner and in collaboration with all departments throughout the VU campus daily.
Plant Operations provides facilities support for all construction, renovation, and routine maintenance of University Central space and facilities; housekeeping services for approximately 5.8 million square feet of academic, administrative, residential, and recreational space; grounds care for 330 acres that are a registered arboretum; turf care for athletic fields; and utilities for the University Central and the Medical Center.
Administration and Supervision
Supervise a custodian staff of upto 20 employees in performing safe housekeeping duties
Coordinate work schedules,schedule special assignments, determine efficient workflow
Respond to and address customercomplaints
Manages personnel actions;including hiring, performance/disciplinary actions and terminations
Review and process payroll timelyand accurately
Manage attendance and PTO usage
Administer union contract for theassigned areas
Respond to emergencies in atimely and professional manner
Provide information to customersregarding work order status; follow up with the customer after the work iscompleted
Inspect work in progress toensure proper custodial work assignments and procedures are followed andutilization of time and standards are maintained
Train new employees on propercleaning procedures and use of cleaning equipment
Ensure compliance with health andsafety standards
Report maintenance deficienciesand generate the necessary work orders; close work order when work hasbeen completed
Maintains inventory of custodialmaterials, equipment and supplies, requisitions custodial materials,equipment and supplies to ensure adequate stock levels followingestablished guidelines
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
High School Diploma or GED isrequired.
Three years of previous experienceincluding one year of supervisor or management experience isnecessary.
Strongorganization, communication and interpersonal skill, relevant technicaland functional expertise, leadership and personal effectiveness is required.
Strongtime management, multi-tasking, quality assurance and customer relationsskills are required.
Knowledge ofMicrosoft Word, Excel and Power Point is required.
Knowledge ofAiM is preferred.
