Position Summary

The Employer Relations Specialist will specialize in internships and other short-term opportunities for college students, as well as international employment. This individual will be a key member of the Employer Relations team responsible for raising the profile, number and quality of job and internship opportunities for undergraduate students at Vanderbilt University.

About the Work Unit

The Career Center serves all undergraduate students enrolled full-time in Vanderbilt. The Center provides ongoing opportunities for students to learn about and explore professional opportunities for their futures including careers, internships, graduate study, and fellowships/scholarships.

Duties and Responsibilities

Manage internship and international employment opportunities

  • Work closely with the Immersion Program to manage internships on- and off-campus.

  • Work closely with ISSS and student groups serving international students to ensure comprehensive and clear services to all constituents.

  • Primary activities include hosting on-campus recruiters, coordinating employer events, and other recruiting-related activities, and maintain job database DoreWays (Symplicity).

  • Ensure employers have a quality experience while visiting with the Career Center.

Conduct employer and opportunity outreach and sourcing

  • Research online resources to find potential new contacts and internship opportunities.

  • Develop/maintain external relationships with potential employers, internship sites, alumni, and other contacts to increase internship opportunities for all students, and employment for international students.

  • Advise and provide assistance to employers through planning, goal-setting, reporting, and creating recruiting strategies.

Develop and provide recruiting information to coaching team and students

  • Collaborate with the career coaches to develop appropriate programming, services, and guidelines for ensuring that students who participate in internship and employment programs are well-prepared for the job search.

  • Coordinate/facilitate programs, presentations & workshops to enhance and increase the visibility of students to employers and vice versa.

Data Collection

  • Compile data and write reports focusing on employment trends and opportunities within specialization areas, and supply information and resources to students and coaching team.

  • Collect, maintain, and present recruiting and placement-related data as needed, including conducting need and satisfaction surveys among students and employers.

Profile of an Ideal Candidate

  • Bachelor's degree is necessary. Master’s degree, or more than three years of above experience is preferred.

  • Experience in career services, human resources, sales, employment or recruiting agencies is necessary.

  • Demonstrated leadership experience in higher education or work setting.

  • Knowledge of methods for developing international employers and internship settings.

  • Demonstrated experience developing a contact network and/or recruiting new employers, clients or members.

  • Knowledge of the job market and the training students need to succeed in interviews.

  • Knowledge of international job market in at least one region beyond the USA.

  • Experience with a college recruiting program.
