About the Position:

Early Childhood Educators at the Vanderbilt Child & Family Center provide essential nurture to young learners and implement a play-based curriculum that informs a rich and vibrant learning environment for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. You will work with inspiring colleagues and engaged parents to support children's cognitive, social-emotional, and physical development; design hands-on, sensory-rich activities; document milestones in portfolios; and make their learning visible through classroom display. Our licensed child care center offers a program founded on social constructivist pedagogy, the important understanding that we construct our knowledge in relationship to one another.

About the Child & FamilyCenter:

The Child & Family Center offers quality early childhood education and care for the children of Vanderbilt Faculty, staff, and students. The program serves children age infants (6 weeks) to five years old. The Centers are licensed by the Tennessee Department of Human Services.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Implements developmentallyappropriate curriculum and activities according to NAEYC guidelines, DOElicensing standards, and center policy

  • Maintains a clean, safe,orderly classroom environment which contributes to the physical,emotional, social, and cognitive growth of children. (Per NAEYC, DOE,OSHA, Risk Management, and Center policies)

  • Supervise personnel assignedto assist with classroom activities (including students, assistants, andvolunteers)

  • Assesses/prepares plans andcurriculum based on children's individual's needs and levels ofdevelopment

  • Prepares and distributesclassroom newsletter weekly or bi-weekly

  • Submits reports necessary forcompliance with licensing agencies, including attendance records and otherdaily reports

  • Monitors classroom andplayground for cleanliness and safety according to established policies

  • Supervise personnel assignedto assist with classroom activities (including students, assistants, andvolunteers)

  • Work with supervisors tomaintain an inventory of supplies and materials

  • Participates in andcontributes to staff meetings, parents meetings/conferences, andopportunities for professional development.

  • Promotes and maintainsconfidentiality concerning information related to children, parents, andco-workers

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in EarlyChildhood Education or similar is required

  • Early Childhood educationcredentials, such as a CDA is required

  • One year of early childhoodeducation experience is required

  • Ability to lift up to 40pounds is required

  • Experience working withchildren in a supervised setting is required

  • Strong communication skillsare required

  • CPR and First Aidcertification is preferred

  • Ability to interact well withchildren, families, and campus faculty and staff

  • Willingness and ability tolearn new skills and be flexible

  • Ability to be flexible tocenter’s needs and hours; hours required to work are 9:00 AM - 6:00 PM
