Community Service Officer (Job Number: 1802066)
As a Community Service Officer (CSO) with Vanderbilt University, you will perform safety and security duties which consist of performing general security/patrol and traffic mitigation duties; reporting suspicious or hazardous situations, proactively patrolling on foot, and enforcing parking regulations. Assignments are made based on the needs of the department and are subject to change. You may utilize non-police vehicles and may staff security posts.
Pay is $14.60/hr, and a flexible schedule is strongly preferred.
The Vanderbilt University Public Safety Department comes under the charge of the Office of the Vice Chancellor for the Division of Administration. As one of Tennessee's larger law enforcement agencies, the Police Department provides comprehensive law enforcement and security services to all components of Vanderbilt University including the Vanderbilt University Campus, Vanderbilt University Medical Center, Vanderbilt Health at One Hundred Oaks, and a variety of University-owned facilities throughout the Davidson County area. May be assigned to a fixedsecurity post and will perform specific tasks and assignments defined forthe post.
May be assigned to trafficmitigation, and/or parking enforcement.
May be assigned to proactivepatrols of facilities, grounds, parking lots and garages to check forsafety and security hazards. Enforces fire lane loading and handicapparking including towing vehicles as necessary.
May lock and unlock facilitiesor areas.
May be assigned to monitor nonviolentpsychiatric patients.
Serves the community throughproactive security post assignments or patrol functions including self-initiatedactivities.
Develops rapport with membersof the university community as well as surrounding areas; participates incommunity relations activities.
Assists community members asnecessary.
Calls for Service
Respond to non-police emergencycalls to include but not be limited to the following: alarms (fire,general security), hazardous material spills and leaks, and pedestrian orvehicular traffic control.
May provide back-up andassistance for other officers within guidelines specified in department policyand procedures.
Responds to general security orsafety hazard calls for service as directed. Maintains knowledge ofInstitutional Disaster Plan and the role of the Community Service Officerin the administration of the plan. Provides appropriate internal andexternal disaster assistance according to institutional policies andprocedures.

Provides walking escorts asnecessary
- May be assigned to investigateand write reports for non-criminal activities according to establishedprocedures.
Special Events andAssignments
Provides security for eventssuch as athletic, concerts, speakers, visiting dignitaries, commencementand numerous other social activities where security personnel may berequired to provide crowd control and maintain order.
May assist with annual parkingpermit registration
May be required to performminor lot maintenance.
Must possess a High School Diploma, GED, or equivalent
Must possess a valid Tennessee Driver's License
Must be a U. S. Citizen
