Communications Relationship Manager for Administration and Internal Communication (Job Number: 1900554)

Description

Reporting to the Director of Internal Communications, the Communications Relationship Manager will serve as the hub for coordinating Division of Communications support for key university partners to support their priorities. This position will be charged with working with the partner to develop and operationalize communications and marketing strategies that support partner goals. In addition to coordinating directly with the partner leadership and their key staff, the Communications Relationship Manager will consult with local staff responsible for day-to-day communications needs, including basic web content updates, social media monitoring and maintenance, and event logistics

The Communications Relationship Manager will be a member of the University Relations department within the Division of Communications. University Relations is responsible for developing and executing strategic communications that advance the university’s priorities and promote engagement among its core, affiliated audiences: faculty, staff, students, alumni, donors, parents and prospective students.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Designs,develops and implements communications strategies that enable partner toaccomplish desired goals with regard to peer departments, professionalorganizations, publication venues and funding agencies

  • Ensuresthat communications efforts are coordinated and appropriate in support ofcurrent goals and objectives of the partner and VU

  • Servesas project coordinator for all of partner’s internal and outbound marketingcommunications, including overall messaging, as well as coordination ofpublications with the marketing and communications plan and budget

  • Facilitates the process through which each strategyis defined as a project with explicit scope, deliverables, milestones, drivers,stakeholders and subject matter experts

  • Leadsthe creation, execution and measurement of communications plans that supportcommunications and marketing strategies

  • Coordinatesresolution of project challenges by communicating effectively andprofessionally to leaders

  • Participatesin a team-based environment, providing support for programs and initiativesacross the department

  • Develops,implements and administers a variety of special projects; provides assistanceto leaders when necessary; and identifies methods and resources needed forsuccessful project planning

  • Maintains an organized record of major advertisingand promotional events

  • Writesand edits news, feature articles and special topics for university publications

  • Overseesthe production of marketing, communications, advertising and promotionalmaterials for various programs

  • Providesoverall support as needed and assigned for department priorities

Qualifications

The ideal candidate with have a bachelor’s or master’s degree and 1-5 years of experience.

  • Excellent written and verbal communicationskills

  • Communications planning and strategyexperience

  • Experience with a diverse array of stakeholders andmessaging strategies

  • Ability to advise on sensitive matters in time-sensitive, urgent orcrisis situations

  • Fluency with social media and web content

  • Ability to produce attractive, high-qualitypresentations, documents and simple graphics

  • Highly organized

  • Experience with project management and managing multiple competingdeadlines
