Vanderbilt University Information Technology (VUIT) has an exciting opportunity for a Cloud Engineer Intern . This Cloud Engineer Internship is an opportunity for college juniors, seniors, and graduate students interested in obtaining personal exposure in higher education by serving in an internship allowing the individual to gain broad exposure to and develop a better understanding of the variety of operations and services within the defined department at Vanderbilt. The focus of this internship will be on engineering and administration of cloud computing data analytics tools, as well as Cloud engineering and deployment with Amazon Web Services (AWS.) This will include, but is not limited to, provisioning servers (EC2 Instances), provisioning storage (S3 Buckets), and provisioning Virtual Private Clouds and RDS.
The Cloud Services work unit provides enterprise cloud services to the institution by leveraging leading edge cloud computing technologies, tools, and techniques for cloud workload provisioning. The work unit acts as a cloud services consultant and broker for infrastructure, platform, and software-as-a-service (IaaS, PaaS, and SaaS) offerings for the various entities across the institution. The unit leverages leading public cloud services providers such as Amazon Web Services (AWS) and Microsoft Azure as a part of its strategy for IaaS and PaaS cloud deployments. The unit also implements hybrid and private cloud deployment models for on-premises workloads not suitable for public cloud.
Duties and responsibilities
Design,build, and maintain infrastructure and software platforms within cloud basedenvironments (i.e. AWS, Azure) using public cloud service modelsinfrastructure-as-a-service and platform-as-a-service offerings.
Migrateexisting on-premises services from physical data centers to cloud using cloudmigration and automation tools.
Writescripts to automate operations and server management.
MaintainQA and Production configuration using automation tools.
Buildand maintain operations tools for monitoring, notifications, trending, andanalysis.
Define,create, test, and execute operations procedures.
Troubleshootproduction issues and re-engineer production workloads.
Workcomfortably with automation and orchestration software.
Profile ofan Ideal Candidate
Must be anenrolled student in their Junior, Senior, or Graduate School years.
Has studied Linux/Unix operating systems
Has studied cloud computing and IaaS/PaaScloud providers services, i.e. Amazon Web Services, Google ComputePlatform, Microsoft Azure
Has studied Apache web servertechnologies
Has studied data analytics, databaseadministration, data structures
Has studied coding/scriptingi.e. PHP, Python, Java,Bash, Perl
Has studied continuousintegration, deployment and release management
Strong desire to learn newtechnologies and explore new and creative ways to solve problems
