Assistant Coach - Men's Basketball (Job Number: 1900555)

The Assistant Coach of Men’s Basketball reports directly to the Head Men’s Basketball Coach and is responsible for providing coaching and administrative assistance to the Head Coach, while serving as the Men’s Basketball contact for athletic support areas (i.e. academics, compliance, equipment, travel).

The university fields 16 varsity teams (6 men's teams and 10 women's teams, a total of 351 student athletes), 14 of which compete in the Southeastern Conference.

Duties andResponsibilities

  • Promotes the philosophy and objectives of theintercollegiate athletics program, to include adhering to all Departmentalpolicies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations of theUniversity, the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA

  • Assists in coaching student-athletes, which includesevaluating their performance in both practice and competition, andproviding leadership and instruction in areas of deficiencies, as required

  • Assists with the scouting and recruitment ofstudent-athletes, including on-campus visits of prospectivestudent-athletes

  • Monitors the conditioning and training ofstudent-athletes, in conjunction with the Strength and Athletic Trainingstaff

  • Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary andpersonal matters, to include consulting with the Director of AcademicSupport in Athletics, the Director for Compliance and other Universityadministrators to resolve problems

  • Participates in the collection and analysis of tacticaland statistical data of opponents and assists in designing game plans andstrategies.

  • Attend coaches’ preparatory meetings and implementsstrategies resulting from these meetings

  • Advises and counsels with student-athletes regardingtheir obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related tofinancial aid and eligibility

  • Other duties as assigned by the Head Men’s BasketballCoach

SupervisoryRelationships

This position does have supervisory responsibility and reports administratively and functionally to the Head Coach for Men’s Basketball.

Education andCertifications:

  • A Bachelor’s degree is required.
