Assistant Coach - Football (Job Number: 1900065)
Responsible for providing coaching and administrative assistance to the Head Coach of the Vanderbilt Football program.
About the Work Unit:
Vanderbilt Athletics Department prepares student-athletes to become leaders and champions in life by placing the highest values on integrity, character, sportsmanship and victory.
Promotes the philosophy andobjectives of the intercollegiate athletics program, to include adhering to allDepartmental policies and procedures, as well as the rules and regulations ofthe University, the Southeastern Conference and the NCAA.
Assists with the scouting andrecruitment of student-athletes, including on-campus visits of prospectivestudent-athletes.
Assists in coaching student-athletes, which includesevaluating their performance in both practice and competition, andproviding leadership and instruction in areas of deficiencies, as required.
Monitors the conditioning and training ofstudent-athletes, in conjunction with the Strength and Athletic Trainingstaff. Assist in the planning and administering of the off-season trainingprogram, as requested.
Counsels team members in academic, disciplinary andpersonal matters, to include consulting with the Director of AcademicSupport in Athletics, the Director for Compliance and other Universityadministrators to resolve problems.
Participates in the collection and analysis of tacticaland statistical data of opponent teams and assists in designing game plansand strategies. Attend coaches’ preparatory meetings and implementsstrategies resulting from these meetings
Advises and counsels with student-athletes regardingtheir obligations to comply with all rules and regulations related tofinancial aid and eligibility, as well as personal conduct and appearance.
Assist in monitoring the academic progress andeligibility status of student-athletes, to include both class and studyhall attendance.
Assist in maintaining statistics, as requested
Interfaces with game officials, as requested
Participates in public relations activities, asapproved, to include granting interviews with newspaper, radio andtelevision media, attending press conferences and making publicappearances.
Assist with planning and coordinating approved fundraising activities, as assigned.
Assists with budget preparations, as requested.Operates within approved budget allocations.
Assists with the development of schedules for practiceand competition, as assigned.
Assists in coordinating team travel arrangements, asrequested. Travels with the team and monitors the conduct ofstudent-athletes.
Interface with the Equipment Manager to ensure thatnecessary athletic equipment is available for scheduled practices andcompetitive events.
Participate in clinics, exhibitions and camps, asapproved.
Represents the Department at professional, civic,charitable, and alumni events, as requested.
Performs other duties and assists with special projectsas assigned by the Head Coach.
Comply with NCAA and SEC rules and regulations.
Profile of an Ideal Candidate
Bachelor’s Degree required
Previous experience in Division I football coaching preferred
